The need to be versatile. That is what Random Genre Month is about. I just posted a similar thing to this on my blog and I thought that this would be important to share to the Random Genre Month world. This is why you should sign up for Random Genre Month. The reason is right here.
The main reason for Random Genre Month is to expand your writing boundaries and to get you to try new things in writing. Many writers stick with one thing and keep working until they master it, but I believe that a good writer is multi-talented. Let me use myself as an example. My genres that I write are YA/Youth and Science Fiction (as I have mentioned, not the alien type) but with Random Genre Month, there's a good thing that I am going to be pushed into doing something new. Being versatile as a writer can not only attract different types of readers, but there's a good chance that you'd make a lot more money. Say you are an avid Mystery writer and then come out with an amazing Romance novel. The romance readers will read your book, perhaps fall in love with you, and they may try your mystery novel. Now there is no guarantee that they will love it, but what if they do? They tried something new as well and perhaps found a new reading style. It broadens not only you, but the reader's horizons. So do you want to be that writer that does one thing and one thing only, or do you want to attract a wide range of people? I know that I want to be more of a double-threat and perhaps a triple-threat or even greater than that in the writing world. You know how if you can act, sing, and dance, then you can do it all in the entertainment business? Well if you can be versatile with your writing, then you can do it all in the writing business.
No need to thank us when your published. We know deep down that you'll be so glad you tried that new genre.
