2011
Our first year with Random Genre Month!
What a fun year it was, too! Jack and Emma, our co-founders, came up with the idea in the midst of their NaNoWriMo planning. It was started to make another writing competition, but one with a bit of a challenge. The rules were made and the website was created and, in order to stay away from NaNoWriMo, they made it 60,000 words instead of 50,000. This proved to be a difficult extra amount.
Finally, NaNoWriMo ended and the hype for RGM began. December 1st came around and the genres were picked. The first genre kind of brought everyone's mood down a bit. Erotic fiction was chosen and we hoped that the other genres would be better. They certainly were. The second genre picked was Mystery, and then the third, Science Fiction, which ended up being the most popular.
The month went by quickly and soon the holidays ended and it was type to start writing again. January 1st came and Jack sped ahead. He faced difficulty in the middle of the month, but eventually went on to finish the novel, one that he thinks may have been his best yet, and he won the RGM 2011 ribbon, a very exciting experience.
It was a good experience for everyone. Though 75% of them didn't complete the writing, it was very enjoyable and everyone is looking forward for next January.
